Former Spencer/Spirit Lake Swimmer Finishes Big 12 Career

Taylor Sieperda who is a senior for the Kansas women's swim team was one of 111 student-athlets in the Big 12 who were awarded the 2019 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement award, the Big 12 conference's highest academic honor.  In order to be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must have lettered in their sport while maintaining residence at their school for the academic year.  The honoree should have 100 hours of earned credit with a cumulative GPA of 3.80.  Only seven swimmers from men's and women's team were chosen.  Kansas had 13 student-athletes recognized for the this award.



The Big 12 swimming championships were held in Austin, Texas from Wednesday February 27th-Saturday March 2nd.  Texas would finish in 1st place and Kansas would finish in 2nd place.


Taylor swam in 2 relays and 3 individual events:

50 Free 23.27 - 10th Place

100 Back 55.67 - 11th Place

100 Free 50.61 - 9th Place

200 Free Relay 1:31.38 - 2nd Place    ***That broke the Kansas school record from 2009***

200 Med Relay - Did Not Place


Taylor was a 2015 graduate of Spirit Lake High School.
