Emmetsburg's Softball Season Comes To An End

The Sioux Central rebel softball team took advantage of Emmetsburg errors and timely hits and defeated Emmetsburg 3-1 Friday night in a Class 2A Region 1 semifinal softball game.  Sioux Central would strike first in the 2nd inning thanks to a throwing error that scored the games first run.  They would get another unearned run in the 3rd inning and lead 2-0.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Emmetsburg scored a run thank to an RBI by Alexa Naig to make the score 2-1 after 3.  The Rebels added another run in the 5th inning and held the E'hawks the rest of the way.

 

Sioux Central with 3 runs on 7 hits with 7 left on base and 2 errors.  Emmetsburg with 1 run on 3 hits with 7 left on base and 4 errors.  Pitcher Lanae Shiley for Sioux Central helped her own cause out going 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Darma Tripp was also 2-4.  Emmetsburg got a hit from Allison Freeman, Kate Jackson and Sarah Simington with Alexa Naig getting the only RBI.

 

The winning pitcher was Lanae Shiley going 7 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.  The losing pitcher was Ashton Connelly going 7 innings giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits with 8 strikeouts and 0 walks.

 

Emmetsburg finishes their season at 19-17 and graduate 3 seniors in Alexa Naig, Michaela Rehm and Ashton Connelly.  Sioux Central improves to 18-12 and will face North Union in a Class 2A Region 1 Final Monday in Milford for the right to go to state.
