Emmetsburg Needs Only 3 Points Against S-O
The Emmetsburg football needed only a 27 yard field goal from Brent Wesley to defeat Sibley-Ocheyedan Friday night in Class 1A District 1 football. Sibley Ocheyedan got the ball first and was driving until Preston Marco threw an interception to Emmetsburg's Will Schany. Will would return it all the way to the 9 yard line. The E'hawks could not get an closer and on 4th down, Brent Wesley lined up for a field goal and made it with 9:03 left to go in the 1st quarter. After that point it was a defensive battle and neither team could really get anything going. A combined 17 punts determined the game. Another big factor was turnovers. Sibley-Ocheyedan would turn the ball over 5 times. Will Schany, Nick Schany and Grant Deitering would all get an interception and Will Schany and Mason Carrigan would recover a fumble.
Emmetsburg was held to 89 total yards and only 4 first downs. They punted the ball 11 times. Sibley-Ocheyedan had 236 yards and 12 first downs and punted 6 times, but once again had 5 turnovers compared to the E'hawks 2 turnovers.
