Emmetsburg Baseball Loses Slugfest With South Central Calhoun

Class 2A postseason baseball started on Saturday night and for the Emmetsburg baseball team, the lost a back and forth slug fest with South Central Calhoun 11-9 to end their season. SCC led 5-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th inning when Emmetsburg scored 3 runs to pull within 1. In the 5th inning, the E'hawks scored 2 more to go ahead 6-5. Then in the 6th inning SCC scored 3 more runs to get the lead back 8-6. The Titans would score 3 more in the 7th inning to lead 11-6. In the bottom of the 7th, Emmetsburg scored 3 runs and had the tying run at the plate a ground out to 2nd base ended the game and South Central Calhoun held on for the 11-9 victory to advance.
SSC scored 11 runs on 11 hits. Emmetsburg with 9 runs on 12 hits and committed 4 errors. Emmetsburg was led by Luke Jackson going 3-3 with and RBI. Nick Chapman 2-4 with 2 RBI's, Greg Wesley 2-4 and Max Dunlap was 1-3 with 2 RBI's. SCC was led by Connor Ludwig going 2-4 with 3 RBI's and Colin Carlson was 2-5 with 2 RBI's.
Both starting pitchers received a no decision. Dillon Van Oosbree for Emmetsburg went 3 1/3 with 3 runs, 3 hits, 2 K's and 4 BB's. The losing pitcher was Matt Kibbie going 2 2/3 with 4 runs on 6 hits. Cyle King for SCC went 4 innings with 4 runs on 6 hits and 4 K's. The winning pitcher was Kyler Steinborn going 3 innings and giving up 5 runs on 6 hits.
South Central Calhoun improves to 11-15 and will take on Fort Dodge St. Edmond Tuesday. Emmetsburg finishes their season at 10-18 and will graduate 5 seniors.
