Class 1A District Baseball At Rock Rapids

HLP vs. MMCRU Recap:
Harris-Lake Park edged Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union 2-1 in Class 1A District 1 Baseball in Rock Rapids on Tuesday night. The Wolves went up 1-0 on a solo shot by Bret Sohn in the top of the fifth. They got an insurance run in the top of the seventh. The Royals led off the bottom of the seventh on a double by Tyler Whited, who later scored on a fielder's choice by Joel Johnson, but MMCRU could not bring the tying run across. Jordan Kyle pitched a gem on the mound for HLP. He gave up one run on two hits. He struck out 13, walked two, and hit one batter. Sohn was 1-for-2 with a walk and the solo home run for HLP, who improves to 9-10. They will face West Sioux on Thursday in Hawarden at 7:20. Hear the game on Q102. MMCRU's season ends at 13-11.

 

HMS vs. Central Lyon recap:
A big second inning propelled Central Lyon to an 11-0 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in six innings in Class 1A District 2 baseball on Tuesday night. The Lions scored six runs on two hits, three walks, a hit batter, and two errors in the second inning. They added a run in the fourth and fifth innings and three runs in the sixth inning. The Hawks had just four base runners in the game. Jayden Baker got the win on the mound for Central Lyon. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on two hits. He struck out five and walked two. Brandt Boekhout went 1-for-2 with a three run home run that ended the game early, a walk, and three runs scored. The Lions are 10-10 and move on to face LeMars Gehlen Catholic on Thursday night at 5 in Hawarden. Reece Petersen suffered the loss for the Hawks. He pitched the first 1 and 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked three. Hunter Orthmann pitched in relief, giving up five runs on four hits, striking out two and walking six. Ivan Abonce was 1-for-2 with a double and walk. Hunter Dorhout was 1-for-3 with a double for HMS, whose season ends at 8-20. The Hawks graduate four seniors: Orthmann, Dorhout, DJ Lode, and Colton Younie.
