HLP vs. HMS recap:

Harris-Lake Park picked up a convincing 54-33 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in Boys Class 1A District 1 Basketball on Thursday night in Paullina. The Hawks would score the first seven points of the game, only to be outscored 28-4 the rest of the first half and trail 28-11 at halftime. The Wolves stretched their lead to 38-16 after three quarters. Bret Sohn led all scorers for HLP with 23 points. Trevor Gunderson added 10. HLP improves to 11-11. They have won six straight games and will play South O'Brien on Tuesday night in Paullina. You can hear that contest on Q102. The Wolverines got by Storm Lake St. Mary's 55-39. Ivan Abonce led Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn with eight points. The Hawks season ends at 8-14. They say goodbye to seniors Tyler Rowe and Jacob Kroese.

 

Pocahontas Area vs. Emmetsburg Recap:

Emmetsburg and Pocahontas were tied at 13 after 1Q but Pocahontas pulled ahead in the second quarter to lead at the half 34-25. The E-Hawks would trail by as many as 13 in the 3rd but wouldn’t give up, cutting the deficit to just 4pts at the end of the 3rd 47-43. It was a 2 point Indians lead with just seconds remaining but a missed runner in the lane by the E-Hawks and a late free throw by the Indians would end the Emmetsburg season. They fall by a final of 59-56 to Pocahontas. Emmetsburg leading scorers were Zack Mason with 10 and Tim Geelan with 10 pts. Pocahontas was led by Jace Davidson with 22 points.
