5 ILCC players, Okoboji grad honored

AMES - Iowa Lakes Community College had five players honored on the all-Region XI Division II women's basketball team.

Mia Wassink (Edgerton) was a first-team choice; Lemia Ntor-Ue (Osseo) was named to the second team; and Marissa Ruiz (Simley), Marisela Perez (Denver Lakewood) and Calynn Jackson (Indianapolis Emmerich Manual) were honorable mention selections.

Wassink was selected to the first team for the second consecutive year. She was second in the conference with 8.6 rebounds per game and was sixth in scoring with 15.4 points per contest.

Among the other players named to the first team was Okoboji graduate Molly Mitchell, a sophomore center with Des Moines Area Community College. She was a second-team selection last year.

Mitchell finished second in the conference in rebounds per game (8.7) and was second in shooting percentage (57.7 percent) while averaging a team-leading 16 points per game.

Southeastern guard Nadirah Oakman was named Player of the Year. She led the league in scoring at 18.3 points per game.
