40th annual Jackson Nationals getting underway

Thu 6-7-2018

JACKSON - One of winged sprint car racing’s biggest events of the season this weekend starts Thursday at Jackson Motorplex as the 40th annual Jackson Nationals begins a three-day run.

The World of Outlaws will hit the four-tenths mile track all thee nights, with Saturday's $40,000-to-win, $3,000-to-start main event.

Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, Calif. won last year's 410 Jackson Nationals after brothers Ian Madsen (St. Mary's, NSW, Australia) and Kerry Madsen (Christchurch, New Zealand) had won the two preliminary nights. All three are expected to be in Jackson.

Donny Schatz (Fargo) is the current WoO points leader as he has a 98-point advantage over Sweet.

Schatz has nine wins this season to lead in that category. Sheldon Haudenschild (Wooster, Ohio) is next with four, followed by David Gravel (Watertown, Conn.) and Daryn Pitman (Owasso, Okla.) with three apiece.

Cory Eliason (Brownsburg, Ind.), who has spent a majority of this season on the World of Outlaws trail, won the lone Outlaw Sprints 410 sprint cars event at Jackson Motorplex this season. Eliason is 13th in the WoO points standings and has one feature win and six top-five finishes.

Jack Dover won the 360 class last year, with Brady Forbrook winning the 305 title.

IMCA 305 sprint cars will also race all three nights, although no track points are being awarded in that class and only Saturday's will have IMCA state and national points.
