#4 Ranked Estherville Baseball Edges Emmetsburg
Estherville Lincoln Central, the #4 ranked team in Class 3A, rallied from behind and came back to defeat Emmetsburg 3-2 Monday in Lakes Conference action. Emmetsburg led 1-0 thru 4 innings and then 2-0 after 5 innings. In the top of the 6th inning, Estherville loaded the bases. Evan Olesen hit a ground ball to the pitcher who threw home and got Bennett Loock for the force out. Then Lucas Gardner popped up to the pitcher for the 2nd out. The bases were still loaded and Jacob Bosch hit a single and scored 2 runs. With runners at 1st and 2nd, Hunter King hit another single scoring Evan Olesen and ELC went up 3-2. Emmetsburg would threaten in both the 6th and 7 innings but could not get anything across and Estherville would win another 1 run game.
Emmetsburg got 2 runs on 5 hits and they left 11 on base. They were led by Wes Schultes going 2-4 with an RBI. Estherville with 3 runs on 7 hits. Jacob Bosch was 2-3 with 2 RBI's and Hunter King was 1-2 with an RBI. Trey Jacobson got the win on the mound. He went 6 2/3 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 5 hits with 9 strikeouts and 6 walks. The save went to Evan Oleson as he got the last out in the bottom of the 7th. The losing pitcher was Matt Kibbie for Emmetsburg. He went 5 2/3 innings and gave up 3 earned runs on 7 hits with 0 strikeouts and 0 walks.
Estherville improves to 20-2 and 10-1 in the lakes conference. They will host Western Christian Tuesday. Emmetsburg falls to 10-12 and 5-6 in the conference. They will travel to Manson on Tuesday.
