Ann Chozen, 97, passed away peacefully at Accura Healthcare of Spirit Lake on August 2, 2019.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August, 31, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. A time of fellowship to celebrate Ann’s life will follow the service at the church. Burial was held in the Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Makis, brothers John and Paul Makis and sisters Betty Nelson and Bess Weiss, Daughter Baby Jane and husband, Sylvan Chozen. Ann is survived by her sons David Chozen (Martha), Mike Chozen (Donna) and daughter Laurie Chozen. Grandchildren John Chozen (Katie), Meghan Chozen Konold (Jon), Ben Chozen and Sam Chozen. Great Grandchildren Anna Grace, Jack and Claire Konold and Reagan and Quinn Chozen.
Ann was born January 31, 1922 in Lakota, Iowa and graduated from high school in Ida Grove, Iowa. When WWII broke out, Ann joined the Navy and was stationed in Ames, Iowa working in the accounting area. After the war she graduated from the Minnesota School of Business and worked for the Winton Family in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
May 1, 1949 she married Sylvan Chozen and moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. Ann took pride in raising her family along with many community services. She has been a member of Immanual Lutheran Church since 1949, was an active leader in both the Boys and Girls Scouts, a charter member of the TTT organization in Spirit Lake, worked on the Spirit Lake Hospital Auxiliary and sat on the Spirit Lake Hospital Board of Directors. In addition, she enjoyed her bridge up until the last few years.
