YMCA Of The Okobojis Gearing Up For 3rd Annual Strong Kids Golf Outing
(Arnolds Park)-- One event that is still ON is this year's YMCA Strong Kids Golf Outing. The organization's CEO, Andrew Fisher, says the event will be held Friday, June 19th at Emerald Hills Golf Course...
"This event here is a four person best ball event but we play with an eight inch cup, and so it adds a little bit of fun to it. I can see some really low scores which makes everybody feel better about their golf game so to speak. And so it allows us to also do some really fun contests throughout the event. A couple of different holes will have some different events happening. We have a putting contest along the way. We're really excited about having our event this season, especially with the uncertainty of everything happening. It's kind of nice to see something happening that has been traditional here. This is our third year for bringing the event back from what it previously was and Northwest Bank is our title sponsor again this year and we're extremely grateful for their support in having this event as well. Looking forward to some great weather and just a nice Friday afternoon event to raise some money for a great cause."
Fisher says the Strong Kids program is a vital component of what the YMCA is all about...
"Really what that campaign does is it allows us to provide scholarships for memberships to programs and camperships. It also helps subsidize some initiative programs that we do across the organization, whether it be free swim lessons, free memberships to all fourth graders in the county; we do swim lessons for all third graders in the county in partnership with the school districts; our reading program which is a educational program that we do in partnership with our school districts; as well as our Community Table program, a feed program that we do all year around. And so this is an important fundraising effort for us to provide some key programs to our community and really as you support this kind of a program you're supporting the community as well."
