(George)-The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department says nearly a dozen people were overcome by fumes Wednesday at a chicken facility located near George.
Officials say at about 2:40 yesterday, the Sheriff’s office received a call about people experiencing respiratory problems, nausea, blurred vision and other symptoms while working in the barns, which were under quarantine due to the Avian Flu.
11 workers were reportedly wearing masks while washing the walls of the confinement following a bird flu outbreak at the facility. Several people were taken to hospitals in Sheldon and Rock Rapids. The Lyon County Sheriff’s office was assisted by the George Fire Department and George Rescue Unit, Boyden Ambulance Service, Little Rock Ambulance Service, and the Lyon County Ambulance service who all responded to this incident.
An investigation continues into the cause of the fumes.
