With Construction Season Comes Reminder Of Safe Digging Practices

Mon 4-8-2019

(Undated)-- Construction season is about to get into full swing and that has area utilities reminding everyone about the importance of safe digging.

They urge everyone to call 811 or go to atleast 48 hours before digging to request to have underground lines located and marked. Before doing that, though, they say you should mark the specific site where you plan to dig.

Utility companies also say you should only use hand tools when digging close to the marks, usually denoted by color-coded spray paint, flags or stakes, and that you shouldn't relay on old location marks.

In the event you should accidentally hit a natural gas line, officials say you should leave the area and call 911.
