(Estherville)-- A two-vehicle collision early Wednesday east of Estherville sent the drivers of both vehicles to the hospital. One would eventually wind up in jail.
Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens says Ruslan Lushchenko of Estherville was driving a 1997 Pontiac southbound when he allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 9 and 410th Avenue east of Estherville. Lushchenko's vehicle collided with a 2006 Pontiac driven by 25-year-old Taylor Larson of Estherville, who was eastbound on Highway 9. The impact caused the vehicle Lushchenko was driving to split into two. The wreckage wound up in the south ditch.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Upon leaving the hospital Lushchenko was arrested and booked into jail on charges of operating while intoxicated...1st offense, and failure to obey a stop sign. Bond was set at $2,000 cash or surety.
