This Week Marks The Observance Of Extension Week
(Spirit Lake)-- This week marks the observance of Extension Week. Sue Boettcher, Human Sciences Program Coordinator for ISU Extension Dickinson County, says food trucks will be parked each day through Friday from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at the fairgrounds. A different truck will be featured each day. Boettcher says they'll also have a number of informational displays inside to take a look at...
"Extension Week is really an opportunity for us to celebrate all of that Extension does. So many people think that Extension is 4-H and ag, but we are a lot more than that. So we are going to have a lot of display tables set up so you can come in. We're going to have it in the hallway of the Expo so you can come in one door, walk down the hall, see the tables, and walk out the other door so we can keep distanced if you feel more comfortable with that. It's also a time for us to thank our volunteers and our partners because we couldn't do what we do without them."
Boettcher says extension and 4-H have evolved over the years to cater to those living in both the country and the city. She says STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, now makes up a large part of what they offer youth...
"As a 4-Her there are lots of STEM projects that they can bring to the fair. So yeah, you don't have to have livestock to come to the fair, so absolutely. And then also in addition to 4-H we have summer camps, the 24th I believe, is STEM Fest out at Lakeside Lab, so yeah, lots of great activities that are for 4-H and youth, all youth."
Boettcher says they will have numerous giveaways throughout the week, along with gardening books and seeds that will be available.
