(Emmetsburg)-- Two men wanted in connection with some thefts in Palo Alto were apprehended late Thursday afternoon after hiding in some corn and soybean fields.

Authorities say it started shortly before 9:30 am Thursday when they received a report of two subjects found on some property at a rural address. As a deputy was enroute, the caller reported the two subjects fled the scene in a vehicle. The driver lost control of the vehicle at an intersection where it rolled while attempting to make a turn. Two people fled the vehicle and went into a corn field. Authorities established a perimeter around the field. An airplane from the Iowa State Patrol and two drones were used in conjunction with a foot search for the suspects, which went on through the afternoon.

Shortly after 5:00 pm authorities received a report from a resident in that area who saw the two suspects exit the cornfield. They were then seen running through a soybean field. Officers converged on the scene and made contact with the two men, identified as 31-year-old Tracy McCallum and 34-year-old Samie Royster...both of Ruthven.

Both were taken into custody. Following an investigation the two were charged with 2nd degree theft, 4th degree criminal mischief, interference with official acts and trespassing. McCallum was additionally charged with driving without a valid license and failure to maintain control.
