(Rock Rapids)-- A teen wanted for trespassing and possibly burglarizing vehicles about 6 miles northwest of Rock Rapids is accused of leading authorities on a pursuit this past Sunday.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says a deputy saw a vehicle leave the area. When the deputy turned his vehicle around, the driver of the suspect vehicle shut off their headlights and took off at a high rate of speed, in excess of 80 miles-per-hour, in dense fog.
The suspect vehicle was pursued by a deputy's squad car for about four miles when the suspect vehicle entered an acreage site and attempted to conceal it. The driver then got out and took off on foot.
The Lyon County Sheriff's K-9 Unit was then called to the scene and tracked the suspect, a 17-year-old boy from Rock Rapids. The teen was apprehended and charged with eluding law enforcement, operating while intoxicated...1st offense, a concealed weapons violation, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to use headlights when required.
The juvenile was transferred to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee.
