Suspicious Case Results In Evacuation, Closure Of Some Streets In Storm Lake
(Storm Lake)-- A suspicious package caused some concern Tuesday in Storm Lake, but it turned out to be safe.
Police were called around 2:00 pm to Star Energy to investigate a suspicious package that had been placed near a fuel pump. Officers say a black case was sitting between two diesel fuel pumps with no one around it. Police checked with Star Energy staff and determined the case was not part of their equipment and that they had no idea why it was placed there.
A nearby street was closed and some businesses in the area were evacuated as a precaution. The Storm Lake Fire Department and paramedics stood by while bomb technicians with the State Fire Marshal's Office x-rayed and examined the case before determining it was safe. The case was then seized by police.
Anyone with information into the case is asked to contact Storm Lake police.
