Strong Wind & Ice-Covered Power Lines Resulted In Scattered Power Outages Over The Weekend
(Undated)-- Strong wind and ice-covered lines combined to cause scattered power outages across the region over the weekend.
Jackson-based Federated Rural Electric Association says 668 of its customers in the Sherburn area lost power for about an hour and-a-half Saturday morning after a problem with a transmission line that feeds a substation in that area.
Ice and wind caused transmission lines to gallop, or bounce, causing flickering lights and an outage that affected more than 1,500 Federated REA members in Minneota, Dunnell, Middletown, Enterprise and Wisconsin townships in Jackson county Sunday morning. Power was restored to those areas in about an hour.
Officials with Alliant Energy and Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative say some of their customers in the Iowa Great Lakes experienced outages Sunday evening.
