Statewide Tornado Drill Scheduled For Wednesday Morning In Iowa
(Spirit Lake)-- The annual observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week is underway this week in the state of Iowa. One of the highlights of the week is the annual statewide tornado drill. Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret says that will be taking place tomorrow (Wed.) morning...
"Every year they do a statewide tornado drill. It's typically on Wednesdays and this year is no different, so Wednesday morning around 10:00 or so they'll be issuing a test tornado watch for the state of Iowa. 10 or 15 minutes later they'll be issuing a test tornado warning. Weather radios will go off for that warning, we will be sounding our sirens here in Dickinson county, so we'll be playing along as if it was a real event and we hope that everybody will do the same at home or at work or wherever. It's a good time to practice that plan to get to shelter and so forth."
Again businesses, schools, industries and individuals are encouraged to participate in the drill.
