Stargazers Program at Dickinson County Nature Center August 17
(Okoboji)-A Stargazers program is on tap Friday night, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has the story:
In the final Nature at Night Program of the summer, the Dickinson County Nature Center is offering a Stargazers program on Friday evening.
Naturalist Ashley Hansen says the event will feature a portable planetarium called STARLAB. "We are going to set up an inflatable indoor planetarium, and with that we're able to project the night sky onto the ceiling of the planetarium dome, and then we can further look at different constellations in the night sky and planets up close. So, we'll be talking about stories behind certain constellations and how they got their names and how different cultures have come up with stories for each of those constellations, and then we're going to talk about the different planets you can see in the night sky."
She notes that the program is free, however pre-registration is required. "We just ask that people call the Nature Center and we'll just write down their names. That's how we get them registered, just because space is limited inside the planetarium."
All ages are welcome for The Stargazers Program.
