Spirit Lake Pursuit Ends With Arrest Of A Royal Man
(Spirit Lake)-- A pursuit early Friday in Spirit Lake landed a Royal man in jail.
The Spirit Lake Police Department say it started a little after midnight when an officer observed a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling westbound on Highways 9 and 71 near the courthouse. The vehicle was clocked going 49 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The officer pulled over the vehicle in the Hy-Vee parking lot, however as the officer got out of his vehicle, the Tahoe fled the scene. It turned north onto Peoria Avenue reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph as it attempted to elude the officer. As the Tahoe approached 140th Street it attempted to continue northbound on 240th Avenue but was unable to negotiate a curve and went into the ditch, striking several signs before coming to a rest. The driver was arrested without incident and a passenger was seen by paramedics after complaining of pain.
The driver, 21-year-old Turner Reece Keith Mortensen of Royal, was booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of operating while intoxicated...1st offense, eluding with injury and numerous traffic offenses.
Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Okoboji and Arnolds Park Police Departments and the Spirit Lake ambulance.
