Spirit Lake City Council Gives Approval To Another Major Residential Development

(Spirit Lake)-- Meeting in special session today (Wed.), the Spirit Lake city council gave the green light for another major residential development to proceed in the city. The council approved an agreement with Troy Schrom, a developer from the Mankato area, who plans to build a two phase development on land bordered by 32nd street to the north, 35th street to the south, and Sunner Avenue to the east. Each phase will consist of 30 units built as townhomes. Schrom tells KUOO news he's on a fast-track to get construction started yet this fall...
Terms of the agreement call for the city to construct water and sewer infrastructure on the site. The completion deadline for the first phase is November 1st, 2016. Schrom is to let the city know on or before January 1st, 2017 if he plans to proceed with the second phase. He would then have 18 months to complete that phase.
Schrom says he's been in talks with the city since last January. He says there are several things that led to his interest in Spirit Lake...
City Administrator/Attorney Greg Owens told the council he's confident the necessary provisions are in place to protect the city in the development agreement.
