Spencer Hospital Tightening Visitor Restrictions
(Des Moines)-- Spencer Hospital announced this (Thurs.) afternoon it's tightening restrictions on visitors. Effective tomorrow (Fri.), patients will only be permitted to have someone accompany them to an appointment or visit them while hospitalized under extenuating circumstances.
One person will be allowed to accompany or visit a patient in the birthing center; one person will be able to accompany a person scheduled for a procedure in the surgery center; one parent or guardian will be able to accompany or visit a patient under the age of 18; and immediate family members may visit patients receiving end-of-life care as defined by a physician.
Spencer Hospital officials add visitors will not be allowed to rotate with another person during the patient's stay in an effort to reduce the number of people coming in and out of the facility, and all deliveries of flowers, gifts and so on to patients have been temporarily suspended.
The hospital has also implemented an ambassador program at the main and emergency entrances. After 5:00 pm and on weekends patients and permitted visitors will be limited to using the emergency department entrance. A brief screening, including a temperature check, will be conducted of everyone, including staff, as they enter.
