Spencer Hospital has again been recognized as one of the Top 100 Rural and Community Hospitals in the United States.
Hospital President Bill Bumgarner explains the award. "Several years ago, the Chartis Center for Rural Health wanted to find a way to recognize the quality of healthcare that's being provided in rural areas. So, established a designation determining both the top 100 rural and community hospitals, mid-sized hospitals, in the country. The do a similar designation for the top 100 critical access hospitals, which are your smaller hospitals throughout the country. They simply just wanted to draw attention to that, and actually go through a pretty thorough process of looking at a wide range of information, actually 50 different service and outcome variables, and essentially it focuses in on quality outcomes, patient satisfaction and business outcomes. They analyze the information in a way that they come up with kind of a general ranking of overall performance."
He notes that the Spencer Hospital has earned the distinction every year that it has been awarded. "We're the only mid-size hospital in Iowa that has earned that designation in each of the six years and so, we're just very proud of our medical staff and our healthcare team for providing responsive care and services in a high quality way."
