Spencer Community School District Awarded Funding To Expand Computer Science
(Spencer)-- The Spencer Community School District is among 49 school districts in the state that will receive money from a new $1 million fund to build their computer science teacher workforce.
The funding is part of a broader effort to expand computer science education in schools across the state.
The effort is part of the "Future Ready Iowa" initiative, intended to prepare more Iowans for high-demand jobs and getting employers skilled workers that are needed.
$500,000 in funding for the program was established as part of a 2017 bill that encourages high-quality computer science instruction in elementary, middle and high school. Additional funding for the program is coming from a 2007 settlement of a class-action anti-trust lawsuit against Microsoft Corp.
