Some Wintry Weather Appears Headed Our Way For The Upcoming Weekend
(Spirit Lake)-- The mild and calm weather pattern we've been in the past couple of weeks appears to be coming to an end.
The National Weather Service says a winter storm will likely impact the region beginning Friday night, continuing into Sunday and Sunday night. Forecasters say precipitation will likely start off as a wintry mix Friday night, with freezing rain, sleet and snow likely Saturday and Saturday night before changing to all snow during the day Sunday. They say several inches of snow could fall before the system moves out Sunday night.
Colder temperatures will also move in once the precipitation ends with highs by Monday only in the teens and lows in the single digits.
Some parts of Iowa experienced record high temperatures Christmas Day, with readings in central and southern Iowa soaring into the 50's and 60's.
