Mon 12-1-2014
(Spirit Lake)-- A member of the Spirit Lake city council is starting a grass roots effort for getting changes made to the state's bottle bill.
John Chappas is urging residents, city council members, members of the board of supervisors and other community leaders to contact state lawmakers. Chappas says he wants to see the one cent per can that currently goes to redemption center operators increased to two...
Chappas admits going up against the bottling industry lobby, which is strongly opposed to such a measure, is going to be tough. But he says he feels something has to be done to help keep redemption centers in operation.
Chappas made his comments at the conclusion of last week's Spirit Lake city council meeting.
