(Milford)-- A Milford man was seriously injured Thursday in a single vehicle crash on Highway 71 near the Milford Cemetery just south of Milford.

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office says 82-year-old Francis Hofrichter of Milford was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer northbound when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle traveled into the median. Deputies say Hofrichter then over-corrected, causing the vehicle to tip on it's side. It then traveled across both lanes of the highway and went onto the east shoulder of the roadway rolling once, possibly twice, before coming to rest.

Hofrichter was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital.

The vehicle was totaled.

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Milford Police Department, Dickinson County Emergency Management, Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics and Milford Fire and Rescue.

The crash took place shortly before 1:00 pm.
