Several American Red Cross Blood Drives scheduled in Northwest Iowa in November
Tue 11-10-2020 Okoboji,IA
(Okoboji)-Several Blood Drives are scheduled in Northwest Iowa over the next couple of weeks, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The American Red Cross is urging healthy donors to give blood, with several opportunities available in Northwest Iowa.
Communications Manager Sue Thesenga says the need is greater around the holidays. "There is a constant need for blood donations, and this time is no different. We traditionally do see a slump in blood donations between Thanksgiving and New Years so, we want to make sure that the blood supply is stable for patients in need. We are urging everybody who's healthy to come out and give."
She adds that extra precautions are being taken due to COVID concerns. "We've put a lot of safety precautions in place to ensure the safety and health of our blood donors, our staff and our volunteers. So, when you arrive at a blood drive, your temperature will be taken before you even enter the blood drive. We want to make sure people are temperature and symptom free before they even come in, and then, during the blood donation, we've put other safety precautions in place like social distancing, disinfecting surfaces in between every donor. Again, just really ensuring the safety of everybody involved."
Appointments may be made by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
