(Okoboji)-The Science on the Menu Series will focus on what's being done with historic collections at Lakeside Lab next week, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The Friends of Lakeside Lab's Science on the Menu Series will continue on April 17 with a talk by Dr. Lori Biederman.
Executive Director Lisa Roti says Biederman's recent work has focused on Lakeside's historic collections. "Dr. Lori Biederman is an Adjunct Professor from Iowa State University, and she's going to be sharing the work that she's been doing at The Lab for over the past year or so, and it's called Bringing Lakeside's Dark Data to Light. Lakeside itself has been in existence since 1909, and has a series of collections. Many of them are in drawers or cupboards or spaces, some of them haven't seen the light of day for a very long time. Lori had this idea where she would actually have someone photograph every one of the specimens with the accompanying tag, and then take that information and upload it into a database called Zooniverse."
She adds that the event includes dinner, and reservations are required by Friday, April 12. "The cost is $15, that includes the appetizers and refreshments beforehand, the meal and the lecture. We encourage everyone, the entire community is welcome, to join us and we'd love to see them."
