School Officials Are Investigating An Incident In Which A Racial Slur Was Directed By One Player Against Another On An Opposing Team During A Boys Basketball Game
(Graettinger)-- Officials with two schools are investigating an incident in which a racial slur was used during a high school athletics event. It happened during a boys basketball game January 29th between Graettinger-Terril and Southeast Valley. The slur was directed toward a Southeast Valley player. The student-athlete who allegedly made it was not allowed back into the game.
In a statement, Graettinger-Terril Superintendent Marshall Lewis said it's a very serious matter and is being handled as such by the district. He added the district and community will neither condone nor tolerate such an act or discrimination of any kind.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association is also looking into the incident.
