Rushmore, Mn. Man Catches A Tagged Walleye
(Arnolds Park)-- A Rushmore, Minnesota man has won a little more than $3,500 after catching a specially tagged walleye in the extended Walleye Weekend contest.
Steve Neyens snagged the fish at 5:30 am this past Sunday on Big Spirit Lake and immediately took it to Kabele's Trading Post for verification.
Kiley Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says there are still some chances left for those entered in the extended contest...
"So since that one was caught that means that there's nine tagged walleyes still up for grabs. We do pay out two more tagged walleye that are caught during the extended contest. So 15 percent then 10 percent of the registrations still get paid out to those individuals that would catch those up until August 31st."
Not only did he happen to catch one of the specially tagged walleyes, but Neyens also won the Charlie Shuck Memorial Award for the heaviest stringer of walleye during the weekend of the contest May 4th and 5th.
