(Spencer)-- A rural Everly woman has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Spencer Hospital Board of Trustees. Julie Christensen was appointed to the seat vacated by Kris Van Berkum, who resigned due to health concerns following 12 years of service to the hospital.

Christensen has served on the hospital’s Quality and Planning Committee as an advisory member since 2014. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Spencer Hospital from 1980 until 1995.

Christensen will complete Van Berkum’s term which runs through December, 2019.

The hospital’s board of trustees approved the appointment at their meeting this (Thurs.) morning.

The board also approved a five-year capital lease for surgical equipment used for arthroscopic and laparoscopic procedures; and they approved the annual quality assessment and performance improvement plan.
