Rock Rapids Drug Arrests
(Rock Rapids)-- A traffic stop Sunday in Rock Rapids resulted in the arrest of a man on drug charges.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says a deputy observed 42-year-old Nathan Helwig of Rock Rapids driving in Island Park in Rock Rapids and knew he did not have a valid license.
During a subsequent traffic stop, a K-9 indicated to the odor of drugs coming from Helwig's vehicle. A search turned up THC wax, a marijuana derivative. Deputies also determined several items had been thrown out of the vehicle. They found additional THC wax and methamphetamine.
Helwig was arrested and booked into jail on charges of 3rd offense possession of methamphetamine, third offense possession of marijuana, failure to have an ignition interlock device and was cited for failure to have a valid license.
In a separate, unrelated case, Lyon county authorities have filed an additional drug-related charge against a Luverne, Minnesota man initially arrested Tuesday, September 1st on drug charges during a suspicious vehicle investigation. 25-year-old Cory Balster and another person in the vehicle, 26-year-old Melissa Radley also of Luverne, Minnesota, were both charged with possession of a controlled substance...methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance...mariuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities now say Balster has been additionally charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and a drug tax stamp violation.
