Ribbon Cutting Held On New Roof Garden
(Arnolds Park)-- History was made Friday evening as a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new Roof Garden at Arnolds Park. Jeff Vierkant, CEO of Historic Arnolds Park, Incorporated says the new venue is intended to entertain and serve thousands of people in the decades and century to come...
"This has been a labor of love for our board members and our construction team to re-build this iconic structure. The historic Roof Garden had so many great names and musical acts pass through it over the course of its many years and we're hoping to replicate that with this building. We started construction of the Roof Garden a couple of weeks after Labor Day of last year and worked all through the winter and all through the spring to get it ready for this evening."
Vierkant says special efforts were made to replicate the original Roof Garden as closely as possible...
"I think it starts when you look at exterior of the building and you see those iconic letters across the front. I mean our architects worked to design the new Roof Garden to look like the old one did from a size and scale perspective. No detail was left unmeasured from their perspective and the interior wise, we wanted to have the two story structure, though the old Roof Garden was actually located on the second story, this one the music will happen on the main floor and we open to the upper level, but we wanted to have that grand feeling of the old building."
Following the ribbon cutting, the first band to perform in the new Roof Garden, Tommy James and the Shondells, took to the stage before a sold out crowd.
