Retired Senior Volunteer Program Looking For Volunteers For Pen Pal Program

Tue 9-7-2021

(Spirit Lake)-- The Northwest Iowa RSVP is looking for volunteers for their Pen Pal Program. Dickinson County RSVP Coordinator DeNeitt VanDenBroeke explains the program...Vandenbroeke01

"The Pen Pal program is a program in our five county area for Northwest Iowa RSVP. It gives the students of the area schools an opportunity to have a volunteer pen pal who is a 55 and up and the pen pals and the volunteers each write three letters a piece. They practice their letter writing, they improve their spelling, they increase their literacy and build positive relationships with each other. We are doing a fall program with Graettinger-Terril schools, and then in January we'll be doing a program with Spirit Lake and in February we'll be starting an Okoboji class."

She adds that anyone interested in volunteering can contact her directly or apply online...Vandenbroeke02

"They can contact me at the RSVP Office here in Spirit Lake. My telephone number is 712-336-6577. We have a website at iowalakes.edu\rsvp where they can learn more about the RSVP program and we have an online sign up form there."

Similar programs are offered in Clay, Emmet, Kossuth and Palo Alto counties.
