Pursuit Damages Spirit Lake Police Car; Sends Man To Jail
(Spirit Lake)-- A pursuit Saturday evening through a residential area of Spirit Lake damaged a police squad car and sent a man to jail. Spirit Lake police say it happened around 10:45 p.m. when an officer attempted to pull over a 2000 Ford Explorer at the intersection of 23rd Street and Hill Avenue. Instead of stopping, police say the driver took off, leading officers on a pursuit. Another attempt by officers to stop the suspect vehicle by using a special maneuver was unsuccessful. The pursuit continued, ending a short time later in a driveway at the intersection of 19th Street and Fargo Avenue.
The driver, Timothy Higgins of Spirit Lake, was taken into custody and booked into jail on charges of driving while revoked, eluding, 13 counts of failure to obey a stop sign, littering, and failure to use headlights.
Minor damage was reported to the vehicle driven by Higgins.
