Thu 11-7-2019

(Spirit Lake)-- The Spirit Lake American Legion and John W. Kidd VFW posts will be putting on programs in conjunction with Veteran's Day coming up on Monday. Dennis Perry, Commander of the Spirit Lake American Legion, says one of those will be held Monday morning at the Sami Center at Spirit Lake High School...Denny Perry01

"It's going to begin at 9:00 am so it's a little earlier than years past, but that will work out real well. We'll get all of the kids from the middle school and the high school and they've got a program all lined up. We're going to hear from some speakers from the high school and of course there's always music and other things going on and what Veteran's Day means to some 8th grade writers and things like that."

Following that, Perry says they'll be travelling to the various care facilities in Spirit Lake putting on programs at 1:00 that afternoon at Accura; 1:50 pm at Keelson Harbour and 2:30 pm at Welcove. He says the public is invited to those as well...Denny Perry02

"We'll put on a little program and we honor the people that call these places their home and we honor the veterans that are there and we certainly don't want to forget the veterans on Veteran's Day."

On another note, Perry says the public is invited to a turkey and ham dinner this Sunday, November 10th, at the Spirit Lake American Legion Post Headquarters on 15th Street...Denny Perry03

"I think we've got the best turkey dinner in town this weekend so I'm looking forward to that and it's a suggested freewill donation of $10 and we hope to see people there and we hope to see them at the programs so we can honor all of the veterans in the community."

Sunday's turkey and ham dinner will be served from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at a suggested donation of $10 per person.
