(Armstrong)-- A power outage early this morning in Armstrong resulted in about 50,000 gallons of untreated wastewater getting into the East Fork of the Des Moines River.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resource’s Environmental field office in Spencer says the power outage caused a pump fail at the city’s wastewater lagoon around 3:00 a.m. this (Thurs.) morning. City officials were able to stop the discharge around 10:30 a.m.

DNR officials say they’ll continue to monitor the situation.
