Fri 8-14-2015 ["2900 Dickinson County Road A31"]
(Spirit Lake)-- A close call Thursday evening when the pilot of an airplane was forced to make an emergency landing on a Dickinson county blacktop after the aircraft ran out of fuel.
The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office says authorities received numerous calls, including one from the Storm Lake Airport, regarding an airplane on the road in the 2900 block of County Road A-31, west of County Road N-14.
Authorities say the pilot, John Walker of Waterloo, wasn't injured and was able to land the plane safely. The road was temporarily closed while Walker went to get some fuel. He flew the plane to the Spirit Lake Airport in Okoboji after re-fueling.
The incident took place shortly before 6:00 p.m.
