PLAC Speaker Series to conclude with talk on Captain Steve Kennedy August 30
(Okoboji)-It's the final installment of the Speaker Series at the Pearson Lakes Art Center on Thursday, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The Pearson Lakes Art Center Speaker Series concludes on Thursday evening with a talk on the Legacy of Captain Steve Kennedy.
Performing Arts Director Dave Rowley explains. "The speakers are Tom Kuhlman and Mary Kennedy, Tom working with the Maritime Museum and everything down at The Park and all of that, and of course, Mary Kennedy, the widow of Captain Steve Kennedy. They're going to speak about his legacy. They're going to talk about Steve's growing up around the area, learning all about the Iowa Great Lakes and Okoboji, just talk about how much he loved the Iowa Great Lakes and enjoyed sharing the history. You know, Steve was quite a guy. He had a lot of tall tales. Anytime you'd stop by the Maritime Museum, you'd have Steve Kennedy there, and plus when he was the Captain of the Queen it was always a lot of fun. He was just such a great guy and so the talk's going to be about his history, his legacy and the Iowa Great Lakes overall. Nobody better could do it than Mary Kennedy of course, and then with Tom Kuhlman as well. The Speaker Series is a wonderful program, and this is the final night of the Speaker Series, and it's on Thursday, August 30 at 7 o'clock."
Admission is free for the Speaker Series.
