Phishing Scams Continue

(Jackson, Mn.)-- Authorities in southwest Minnesota say they continue to get reports of phishing scams from individuals being contacted from someone purporting to represent financial institutions in the area.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says most of the contacts are through emails people are getting claiming there's some kind of a problem with their bank account. It directs them to a website prompting them to give personal information, including account numbers and social security numbers.

Text messages claiming to be from the Fulda Area Credit Union were reported Monday. Today, (Tues.), Jackson county authorities say they've had reports from people getting similar texts from someone purporting to be United Prairie Bank.

Authorities say anyone receiving such a text should simply disregard and delete it. They say that if you have a question surrounding the status of your account that you should contact the financial institution yourself.
