Palo Alto County Sheriff Presses Need For Additional Deputy
Fri 11-25-2016
(Emmetsburg)-- The sheriff of one northwest Iowa county is pressing the need for an additional deputy.
Palo Alto County Sheriff Lynne Schultes says he and his eight deputies can no longer keep up with calls for service, which he says have increased by 16 percent since 2010. He says arrests in the county are up by 98 percent over that same period and traffic citations have increased by 131 percent, with a 230 percent increase in deputy transports during that time.
Schultes says having an additional deputy would also help the department with manpower in drug investigations and school programs.
Schultes recently pressed his case with the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors, which so far has taken no action on the request. Schultes says he'll go back to the board at a later date. Schultes meanwhile is asking residents with concerns to contact their supervisor.
