Palo Alto County Authorities Recover Body From A Lake

(Emmetsburg)-- An investigation is underway after authorities in Palo Alto county recovered a body from a lake.

The Sheriff's Office says they received a report around 1:16 pm July 22nd of a possible body in Virgin Lake, south of Ruthven. The body was found to be about 25 feet from shore at the east boat ramp in the 3700 block of 353rd Avenue. 

The body was removed from the lake and was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiners Office in Ankeny where it was confirmed to be that of 27-year-old Rollin Bontrager of Washington, Iowa. 

The Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office says search warrants were executed Friday (July 31st) at two residences in Emmetsburg and that three vehicles were also searched. Authorities didn't say what was found, but they did seize several items which they say are being analyzed.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Palo Alto County Coroner, Iowa Medical Examiner's Office, the Clay and Emmet County Sheriff's Offices, Emmetsburg and Spencer Police Departments and the Iowa DCI Crime Scene Unit are assisting in the investigation.
