Online Registration Now Underway For 2019 Walleye Weekend
(Arnolds Park)-- Here's a sign that spring is right around the corner: online registration is now underway for this year's Walleye Weekend in the Iowa Great Lakes. This year's event will be held May 4th and 5th. Kiley Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says you can sign up by going to okobojichamber.com...
"The cost for those 16 and over is $25; the cost for 15 and younger is $15 for the weekend and then of course you can always register for the extended contest for a chance to catch one of those tagged walleye all summer long for another $15."
In addition to the online registration, registration forms will also soon be available at lakes area bait shops
Zankowski adds there will be some additional grand prize money on the line this year...
"So again this year we'll have 10 tagged walleye dispersed on the lakes. If you catch one of those this year the prize did go up to $37,000 if you catch it that weekend. Then of course we also still have all those other awesome categories like the heaviest stringer of three walleye; the heaviest stringer of three walleye 1st through 3rd under 17 as well; and then we have the heaviest stringer of northern pike; heaviest stringer of pan fish and heaviest stringer of bullhead."
The “Biggest Walleye Contest” will also be held again this year.
Zankowski says the popularity of Walleye Weekend continues to grow...
"Last year we had just around 2,000 so it's fun to see them all out on the lakes kicking off the season fishing and just enjoying the great lakes for what they have to offer."
This will mark the 37th year for Walleye Weekend in the Iowa Great Lakes.
