Tue 2-16-2021

(Armstrong)-- An ongoing investigation into corruption of city government in Armstrong has resulted in another arrest.

The Emmet County Sheriff's Office says former City Clerk Mary "Kate" Staton turned herself in today (Tuesday). Staton was wanted on warrants charging her with one count of theft in the 3rd degree and one count of tampering with records.

The same investigation has already resulted in the arrest of the town's Police Chief, Craig Merrill, Mayor Greg Buum, City Clerk Tracie Lang, and another former City Clerk, Connie Thackery.

The investigation revealed alleged wrongdoing including but not limited to misappropriation of city funds, the presentation of fraudulent public records, deploying a taser against a civilian in exchange for cash and falsification of ledgers to conceal embezzlement.
