On Line Registration Now Under Way For 2020 Walleye Weekend

Wed 2-5-2020

(Arnolds Park)-- Here's a sign of warmer times to come: on line registration is now open for this year's Walleye Weekend to be held May 2nd and 3rd in the Iowa Great Lakes. Kiley Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says there are no major changes in the format this year...2020 Walleye Weekend01

"All of the tournament aspects will stay the same again this year. Pricing and registration rules will basically be the same. On line registration is open now with in-person registration and forms going out in March."

Zankowski says the grand prize reflects the fact this will be the 38th year for Walleye Weekend...2020 Walleye Weekend02

"So if you catch one of the ten tagged walleye over Walleye Weekend you have a shot at $38,000 which would be so awesome. I know it's been a few years since we had that grand prize winner over the weekend, but you also want to sign up for the extended contest because the prizes don't just go on over the weekend, they continue all summer long. You get a percentage of the winnings if you catch one of those tagged walleye. We had three caught two years ago and one caught last year, so great chances at some awesome prizes and great way to enjoy the Iowa Great Lakes Area."

Zankowski says you can register now online at Walleye Weekend03

"For adults 16 and over it is $25. For 15 and under it's $15 for Walleye Weekend itself and for anyone if they want to register for the extended contest, that's $15. We've actually gotten quite a few registrations already. I know a lot of people are excited for the lakes to open up and for the fishing to happen again, some boat fishing I guess I should say for ice fishing, so we're really excited."

Zankowski says any business interested in sponsoring Walleye Weekend or that would like to donate prizes should contact the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce at 332-2107. The prizes will be distributed during the annual awards luncheon that will be held at 12 Noon Sunday, May 3rd at the Dickinson County Expo Building in Spirit Lake.
