(Okoboji)-Look for Okoboji Vodka soon in the Iowa Great Lakes, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
Okoboji Vodka will soon be coming to your favorite watering hole or retail outlet.
Scott Bush, Founder of the popular Templeton Rye, says the product is part of his new Heritage Brand. "So, my great grandfather was from Templeton, and I started Templeton Rye Whiskey. I'm still a major owner of Templeton but, I wanted to do something a little different and so I started this really cool distillery down in Valley Junction in Des Moines, and one of the parts of our business is what we call Heritage Brand. So, the whole philosophy is, you don't have to live in New York City to have cool stuff. You know, there's cool people, places, events no matter where one lives, and so our our first brand out of the Heritage Brand is Okoboji Vodka. My father is from here, from Lake Park, and we used to come up here as kids and see my grandparents, and just the pride and uniqueness of the Okoboji area we thought would be really cool to build a brand around."
He notes that the Vodka is distilled in Iowa. "So, it's 100% grain, pot-distilled at our facility in West Des Moines and gluten free. So, made here in Iowa."
He says the product should be available by mid-April.
