Okoboji School Board Will Consider Mask Mandate During Special Meeting This Evening (Mon. 10/5)
(Milford)-- A mask mandate may be on the way for another area school district.
The Okoboji School Board will meet in special session this (Monday) evening to consider the matter. The board will consider a proposal that would require all students and staff to wear a face covering when six feet or more of social distancing can't be maintained, such as on a bus and during the school day. Exceptions could include recess, lunch and physical education. The new policy would include activities.
The proposed policy states that any student or family not wishing to comply with the requirement would be allowed to enroll in the district's online option.
A number other school districts in the region have adopted similar policies after the Iowa Department of Public Health last week announced new quarantine guidelines for schools. They say quarantines won't be needed in the event someone who tests positive for COVID-19 and those that were exposed to that person were all wearing masks.
